Golf Draw Shot - Tips - How to Execute the Draw Shot

Being able to manoeuvre the golf ball and shape the golf draw shot is often classed as being an advanced technique. However with the correct set up there are only two factors which dictate how the golf ball will fly.

The two factors are club face alignment and the swing path at impact. Having an understanding of these principles should make it easier for you to shape the golf draw shot.

The draw can be a useful shot to use especially in windy conditions. The ball tends to fly lower and when it lands it runs a lot longer on the fairway.

At set up the club face should be aimed at the target, your feet, hips and shoulders should be aligned slightly to the right of the target. Please note that consideration should be made for club selection as the ball will run further than normal with this type of shot.

The left hand grip required should be strengthened just a fraction, i.e. by twisting the left hand clockwise. When looking down at your left hand on the club you should be able to see at least three knuckles rather than the normal two.

During the backswing concentrate on initiating a good turn. At the top the club should be pointing to the right of the target by the amount that your body was aimed and also by the amount you intend to shape your shot.

When you swing down at the ball, attack the ball from inside of the line. The club face should be aiming at the target; however the club face will look closed in relation to your stance. It is this setup that imparts the necessary side spin on the ball for this shot.

Because the draw shot is more of a feel type shot it is better to start practicing this shot with a six or seven iron. You will also find that by the very design of the irons it is a lot easier to draw the ball with these clubs. It is a little bit more difficult to execute with fairway woods.

I cannot guarantee how these will operate on your computer nor your level of computer knowledge to use the tools well, however I have found them to be safe, reliable and user friendly.

Then there are the regular tasks that I perform on a weekly or bi-weekly basis:

Open each of your Spyware/Adware programs (Microsoft Defender and Adaware). Run a full scan on each at least once a week.

Open AVG and update plus do a full computer scan every day. It does this automatically at 8am AWST so do it yourself each day if you do not turn on computer before 8am.

Go to Start. Go to Control Panel. Go to Internet Options. Go to General tab. Delete all Cookies. Delete all Temporary files. Do this once a week. If you use Firefox you may also need to manually go to Tools, Options and Privacy plus Advanced to show and clear their cookies, private data and to empty the cache.

Open the CCleaner and click Analyze, then delete those extra files.

Go to Start. Go to Accessories. Go to System Tools. Go to Disc Clean Up. Perform a full disc clean up. Once a week.

Go to Start. Go to Accessories. Go to System Tools. Go to Disc Defragmenter. Perform a full defrag. Once a week.

Back up all your files/folders onto CD's, external drive or a laptop. Once a month at least, depending on the amount of work you do.

For email security, I do the following:

Set your email to be read in Text Only format, For example, in Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, Read and then check the box that says -Read all messages in plain text-. If you ever want to see a trusted email in HTML format (i.e. with pretty pictures!) then while any email is open, simply click on View and then click on Message in HTML (or hold down Alt+Shift while keying the letter -H-) and it will show you the fuller version of that email message.

Go to View, Layout and uncheck the box that says Show Preview Pane. This way emails do not open in full until you click them open. You then get to decide which are opened.

Close an email and delete its highlighted line, rather than the open email. If you delete an open email, then the next email in the queue will automatically open. It may be one that you do not want to open automatically!

To confirm an email address of sender, simply right click the email before opening and click on Properties to see the email address. Most times you can pick a weird one before you choose to open it! I have a column in my email reader that lists the address of the sender, so I can see it before I decide to open.

I have also created folders and sub-folders for the regular and trusted mail. That way, I know if any email lands in a folder, it is from someone with whom I have already communicated.

Note: Create a system restore point always before downloading anything new or deleting anything old. Do this by going to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Restore. That way if you ever want to undo anything, you simply go there and do a system restore to the last point that you created.

This is very important because the comfort and weight of the shoe play a big part in your footwork on the tennis court. We all know that once your footwork goes your whole game goes down. So make sure that the shoe is light and comfortable.

Next the shoe must be versatile. It has to be able to mold to your foot with flexibility. Now this is something that is difficult to feel when trying on a brand new shoe because it takes a while for a new shoe to break in to your foot. One thing I do is take the shoe and try and bend it to see how flexible it really is. Normally the more durable shoes are going to be less flexible which could cause blisters and uncomfortable movement on the court.

So we know that the shoe needs to be somewhat light and comfortable when you put it on as well as flexible. Now we need to figure out the durability. This is very important because when you shop for a shoe that is said to be very durable then the other features will definitely struggle. So something has to give. I want my shoe to be durable but I don't want to lose comfort or flexibility. So see how much buildup there is at the end of the shoe by your big toe. This is a fey factor to see how much tread and durability has been built up in the design of the shoe.

A new shoe should really last you about 3-4 weeks if you're playing a whole lot. Remember understand what you want out of your tennis shoe and that will determine what kind of style and purchase you want to make. It's always good that you have an ideas book. Whenever you think of a good idea, write it down. You can always work on it or improve it later. Bring along the ideas book wherever you go. It doesn't need to be fancy. It can be a normal pocket-sized spiral notebook.

How To Change Your Printer Ink Cartridges?

Look for colors

There are usually four cartridges to change: black, magenta, cyan and yellow. To find the cartridges the easiest way is to open the top of the printer and look for a black box. It will sort of look like it could move but in most cases the four color cartridges should be visible in their respective colors within the box. They may be hidden a bit under another part of the printer. This means that you may have to look for a button somewhere on the top of the printer to push for around three seconds. This should move the black box out into the open.

Remove the ink cartridges from the black box. Sometimes a gentle wiggle will loosen them up for removal while in most instances you will need to gently pull or push a lever on each cartridge to have them let go of the box. A fore finger and thumb should remove the ink cartridges from the box. There will be a bit of resistance but not much. Keep it clean

Take a look around the inside of the box that held the ink cartridges. If you see some residue there or possibly on the old ink cartridge, find a non-linting cloth to clean it up out of the box. This could clog the ports for the next set of new cartridges.

Install the new ink cartridges. Each color should go into the same color slot it came out of. Place them in heel to toe. There should be a click to signify they are in place. You are just about done. Close up the unit. You may need to push the same button you pushed before to reset the cartridges. Otherwise turn the unit on so it can reset.

An Analysis Of French And Polish Communicative Styles - Doing Business Within A Borderless Europe

Relations between France and Poland are very tight. Our contacts intensified in the wake of the recent accession of Poland to the European Union. The new reality of the enlarged EU breathed a new spirit to the historic ties linking our two nations.

With a growing borderless European Continent there are many issues to consider on this march to a unified super-state. Each country (approximately 52) traditionally has its own values, beliefs, customs, and identity as well as its own language and style of communication. A monumental challenge in creating a single-state will be to combine or merge all of these national traits into a harmonious, unified nation. This article aims to compare and contrast the respective communicative styles of both French and Polish highlighting areas of similarity and possible conflict and relating the issue to the wider European context.

The Languages

France and Poland are two European countries which both hold strong national characteristics and communicative styles. The French language represents passionate, expressive romance where as Polish represents the more abrasive Slavic language family, more specifically, Polish is a member of the sub-group of Lechitic languages. In addition to being the official language of France, French is also the official language of Haiti, Luxembourg, and more than fifteen countries in Africa. The French language is one of the official languages in Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland, plus it is considered an unofficial second language in many countries such as Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. Polish on the other hand, is the official language of Poland and has approximately 50 million speakers worldwide. It is also used as a second language in some parts of Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Stereotypes and Common Misconceptions

One of the most common stereotypes regarding the French character is that they are rude and aggressive when communicating with both each other and foreigners. A Telegraph newspaper article in 2005, entitled Europe unites in hatred of French identified a number of beliefs and attitudes which other European nations held with regard to the French. According to this respected broadsheet newspaper, the British described them as chauvinists, stubborn, nannied and humorless. The Germans stated that the French were pretentious, offhand and frivolous. The Spanish saw them as cold, distant, vain and impolite. In Italy they come across as agitated, talkative and shallow, snobbish, arrogant, flesh loving, righteous and self-obsessed and the Greeks found them not very with it, egocentric bons vivants. Although the Polish are generally less revered, a recent international recruitment paper prepared in the U.K entitled Understanding your Polish employees highlighted the core values and attitudes of the Polish people. These included national pride, religion, family, obstinacy, courage, idealism, stoicism as well as generosity and hospitality. Although widespread consensual opinion regarding the Polish character is not as strong as that of the French, the Polish are famed for their temperament (polski temperament) and tend to be straightforward, direct talking and inflexible with regard to attitude and opinion change.

Communicative Styles

A great deal of analysis looking into communicative style has occurred within the workplace. Typically, this workplace features L2 communication in an L1 context. This ideology was incorporated in the work of Beal, 1990 who found that Australian English speakers held the notion that the French were rude or arrogant after observing their workplace communication styles within Australia. Prior to this research which observed French workplace behaviours found that a vigorous assertion of everyones viewpoint, the use of a certain verbal violence to lend those views more weight, and the clash of convictions and interest are part of normal functioning. (dIribarne, 1989:29 cited in Peeters, B, 2000:198). Beal, 1993 stressed that among the French, consensus is not highly valued nor striven for in a conversation, the rationale being that consensus would indicate that a persons objections were being suppressed and kept to themselves. A complete openness of opinion and attitude is desired by the French when communicating, whilst this creates an intense theatre of conflict, it also provides the basis for a positive exchange of frank ideas which is seen as an essentially element within French society. Like the French the Polish communicative style also values emotionality and disagreement. (Wierzbicka, 1991 cited in Goddard, C., & Wierzbicka, A. 1997:243) stated that Polish culture places a high value on the uninhibited expression of both positive and negative feelings. Opinions are usually expressed forcefully and the distinction between personal opinion and fact is perceived to be minimal or often non-existent. This need for frank expression even at the expense of being hurtful to someone is a core value within Polish communication. It is further illustrated through the use of the cultural scripts approach as proposed by Wierzbicka, 1991.

This notion is also reflected, although not directly, through the standard form of language use amongst Polish people. The imperative form is usually used when making requests or giving advice within Polish communities. Unlike in English, Polish does not have any supposed relationship between conceptions of politeness and the use of the imperative. Polish does though use a large number of diminutives to occasionally soften imperatives and add a feeling of warmth and closeness to an interaction. These diminutives are usually used when talking to someone familiar or a child. French also reflects this practice to an extent, but on a much smaller scale through the use of the intimate language forms such as ty and tu. Polish and French people are warm and hospitable to friends and close relations but remain wary and standoffish to total outsiders. Within both French and Polish there is an elaborate system of grammatical gender featuring a basic masculine and feminine form. Polish though, distinguishes a total of five separate gender patterns: personal masculine animate non-personal masculine, inanimate masculine, feminine, and neuter.

Within Paris the French extreme honesty and directness can be witnessed through the stylized ritual of bawling people out. This is seen as an integral part of a persons identity as a Parisian and as a means of expressing respect and value to other people. The basic rule for this ritual is; the more offensive you are the more value you assign to the other persons existence, this also cements the fact that the two people hold a shared membership and identity as fellow Parisians and are therefore entitled to perform such a ritual by right.

This Parisian ritual is symbolic of the concept of lengagement (commitment or involvement) as proposed by Beal, 1993. In terms of the French cultural scripts later proposed by Wierzbicka, 1994, the basic rules for lengagement have been identified through the following cultural script:

Everyone has the right to have their own wishes, their own opinions, and their own feelings. But everyone has the duty to express their wishes, opinions, feelings, clearly to others, and if others want to influence them, they have the duty to defend and justify their wishes, opinions, feelings. (Beal, 1993:102)

Just like the Parisians, the Polish also have a specific communicative element that acts to cement in-group relationships and assert a common connection between relative strangers who share the Polish nationality. The Poles utilize speech genres as identified by (Bakhtin, 1986 cited in Goddard, C., & Wierzbicka, A. 1997:252). The most commonly identified Polish speech genres are those of kawal and podanie. Kawal represents a conspiratorial joke that is usually political in nature expressing solidarity whilst taking aim at the perceived common enemies of Nazi Germany or Russia. Podanie on the other hand represents a form of communication between an average citizen and an authoritative agency or governmental office. The writer will act to request favors or presents and state that they will depend on the authorities forthcoming goodwill. This podanie can be extended to any form of request directed to someone in an authoritative position. This style of Polish communication is highly reflective of life in a communist country, although the basic functions of kawal and podanie can be likened to bawling someone out in Paris in the social function which they both act to serve.

Within lengagement exists the equally important concept of renvoyer la balle (tossing the ball back). Beal, 1994 likened this communicative method to a verbal duel in which behaviors such as point scoring, teasing, sarcasm and provocation were all essential positive attributes. This is typically observed through the French preference for overlaps, latching and cutting-in whilst the other person is speaking. Whilst such behaviour is generally considered rude in many other European cultures, the French see it as adding to the dynamic, free-flowing, expressionate nature of communication. The continual interruptions in French conversation are in no way a matter of cutting someone off in the middle of a word or sentence but to show my interest in the others remark (Carroll, 1988:36). During a typical French conversation the listeners and speakers always seem to know when it is time to jump in to add their own opinions, this usually comes as soon as they know what the other person is going to say. Murata, 1994 termed this behavior as cooperative interruptive behavior. Thus, a competitive environment of quick thinking and reacting is established where all participant are vying for their time under the spotlight:

The French commit themselves in various ways: they suggest an appropriate word, they finish the other speakers sentence, they intervene, they start off their turn with mais but, they reinforce their speech with moi, je I, for one and with en fait as a matter of fact etc. (Beal, 1993:103)

The Polish also like to stand firm during a debate or conversation and see verbal communication as a duel or a test of character. The value given to a stubborn, inflexible approach to discussion can be illustrated through the Polish word for compromise, (kompromis). This holds a number of extremely negative connotations connected to a moral weakness or a deplorable lack of firmness within Polish society. It is interesting to note that the French and the Polish share many similarities in their free, duel-like unchecked expression. When we consider that Poland did not feature in (Hofstedes, 1991 cited in Neuliep, 2000:37), individualism rankings table. Out of the 52 countries listed France, however, ranked 11th. Based on this it could be argued that the communicative styles shown by the Polish are much more collective and nationalistic than those of the French who are acting on a much more individualistic level. It could also signal a higher level of acceptance toward confrontational behavior within France. French society can indeed be considered a society with a specifically confrontational mentality, where conflict is both tolerated and welcomed. It appears that in France, co-operation and conflict are two equally necessary components in the pursuit of dialogue. (Kerbat-Orecchioni, 1990:148 cited in Mullan, K. 2001:7).

While the French and Polish communicative style is complex, especially to the outsider who often perceives it as offensive, rude and direct, it would be wise to consider the national mentalities of these countries as a reflection of the following statement, when everyone agrees, theres nothing left to say to each other; when there is a disagreement, discussion is possible. (Moeschler, 1985:153 cited in Mullan, K. 2001:7). This is certainly food for thought for all nationalities.

As a European super-state nears the feeling within France, among the French is constantly changing. During the 2005 referendum in France, there were many people against the new constitution treaty that would mark the next big step in a 50-year process of European economic and political integration. As a symbol of anti-European sentiment, the Polish Plumber was created and used as a symbol of fears that France would be hurt by the treaty's vision for a larger, more closely knit Europe. Playing on the panic of high employment, cheap labor and increased immigration the Polish Plumber was cast as a dangerous influence from the east. Although an offensive stab at the Polish nation, the Polish government reaction was to embrace the message from France and produce a humorous tourism poster directed at the French. The poster featured a handsome Polish plumber along with the phrase Je reste en Pologne, venez nombreux (I am staying in Poland, do come over in numbers). This surprising and highly effective reaction was unexpected from such a stout government and illustrates the changing nature of Poland and their flexible sense of humor. The Polish sense of humor though, cannot be compared to the French sense of humor. Besemeres, 2007 stated that as a bi-racial Polish/Australian child she could never find the sense of humor in Poland that allowed her to tease others in a relentless manner. This kind of humor is much more readily found in France where teasing and criticizing of other people and nations is commonplace.

Conclusion

A December 2004 governmental report (cited in The Scotsman) by Frances top administrators concluded that, The French no longer believe in anythingthey believe that it is not even worthwhile expressing their opinions or trying to be heard any more. The countrys top 100 prefects continued to use words such as lifelessness, resignation, anxiety and pessimism to describe the attitudes they believe prevail in modern France today. One could look to the recent social and political disturbances within France during 2006 and 2007 to see that although not academically proven, this report holds some element of truth as to the changing nature of the French national character and mentality. Poland is also a changing social setting. Their steps forward from the dark days of communism were acknowledged when in 2003 they voted by a 75% majority to join the European Union. The president at the time, Aleksander Kwasniewski hailed the result, telling cheering crowds in Warsaw: We have returned to the European family. As further European integration occurs and migration of people continues the Polish identity, communicative language style and cultural make-up will also undoubtedly be re-born into the 21st century.

A credit score is an indicator of how likely you are to default on a loan or credit card in the next 24 months. This information is used by credit grantors when evaluating your credit for approval. Your BEACON, FICO or EMPIRICA score is based solely on information in your credit file maintained by the credit reporting agencies. Other scores may be based on a combination of credit information and other information that you supply on your credit application.

The way you have handled credit in the past may indicate how you will manage credit in the future. Credit scores cannot predict with certainty how you will manage credit, but they do provide an objective estimate of how likely you are to repay on time and according to terms.

How Are Scores Calculated?

Your credit report is the basis of your FICO score. The report details your credit history as it has been reported to the credit reporting agency by lenders who have extended credit to you, by court records and by you. The FICO score analyzes information from the trade line, inquiry, public record and collection sections of your credit report.

A FICO score evaluates five main categories of information in your credit report, and compares this information to the patterns in hundreds of thousands of past credit reports. These five categories are, in order of importance:

1. Payment history what is your track record? 35 % of the score

Risk predictors here look at:

Severity how bad are the delinquencies?

Recency how recent are they?

Frequency how many times did it occur?

2. Amounts owed how much is too much? 30% of the score

Credit ratings are based on your credit report. When a financial institution - a bank, credit card company, or another type of company - loans you money, they will report to an agency how well you are keeping up with your payments. If you are keeping up with your payments, all is well. If not, then negative feedback is given to the agency and may stay on your credit report up to seven years.

However, before a financial institution will report to an agency, they will make an effort to contact you to help you get caught up on your payments. If you respond and get back on track, they will monitor you more closely, but it is possible that they will not report you to the credit agency. However, if you do not respond to their warnings, the financial institution will sell your debt to a collection agency. This is called "writing off the loan." The collection will purchase the bad debt at a cost lower than the amount due. It is better for the financial institution to get some of the money as opposed to none at all. When this happens, the financial institution reports this to the credit bureau, and you will be given the lowest possible rating on your credit report.

It is vital that you try to avoid this "writing off" of your debt. If you are at the point that your debt is in the hands of a collection agency, it is imperative that you respond as soon as you have been contacted by the collection agency. All is not lost at this point. Before making payment arrangements with the collection agency try calling the creditor one more time. In many cases, if you agree to pay the full amount immediately, they will remove the "gone to collection" mark from your credit repair. This is a key ingredient to fix poor credit.

If the creditor is unwilling to do this, you have no choice but to work with the collection agency. Keep in mind that at this point, your credit rating can not get any lower. You have no where to go but up--provided you are diligent in trying to fix your poor credit. Just a warning here. The collection will be very aggressive to collect the debt, often demanding that the amount be paid in full, even implying that they will take you to court if you do not.

One thing that you may not know about collection agencies is that they probably bought your debt at about half its value, so any payment over that is a profit for them. Try to come to terms as quickly as possible, even arranging to make a lump sum payment if you can arrange it. Their goal is to recoup their money, make a little profit, and close the case so they can move on and not drag things out.

Just a reminder, always try to deal with the creditor holding your debt FIRST. If things have progressed to the point of a collection agency, don't ignore their calls, but work on a payment plan as quickly as possible.

Why Your Goal Setting Annoys Friends, Family and Faint-Hearts

It's not unusual for people to come back from an inspiring personal development seminar, or after having read a potentially life changing book on goals and ready to take action, only to be faced with indifference and sometimes downright hostility from loved ones. Why is this the case and what can you do if it happens to you?

The relevance of what I have to say here will depend to some extent on the nature of your current relationships with friends and family. Not knowing your situation, I cannot be specific as to the outcome. What I do know is that there will be a reaction once you begin to implement the goals and make changes. And it might not be pretty, at least at first. Especially where a change in comfort is concerned. That is to say, to their psychological as well as possibly physical, comfort! Your friends and family have grown accustomed to the familiar you, warts and all. How dare you upset the applecart by seeking change with all this goal setting nonsense! ;-)

One effective method for handling this is to expect it. Be prepared! In any web of relationships there is an inbuilt survival element of "what's in it for me?" Remember, this is not necessarily a negative or selfish trait to be despised - it's simply a reality of why people are often drawn to each other in the first place. So you should be increasingly aware of the impact your goal setting and changing life direction may have on those close to you. I would go as far to say that you should patiently resolve to see their side of it with as much compassion as you can muster. Now, compassion doesn't mean weakness, or imply deviation from your chosen path. But it does suggest an openness to understand and perhaps, within reason, to compromise.

An example from a friend of mine may help to make the point. When John ( not his real name) first announced he was leaving the corporate world to pursue his goal of building a successful small business, his friends and family were at first surprised, even a little jealous. But then it dawned on his wife that not only would their income drop drastically during the unknown and possibly prolonged startup phase of the business, but that John would be working from home each and every day. For a woman well used to being a homemaker and on her own for most of the nine to nine working hours considered normal in Japan, and within the confined space of a small, by Western standards, Japanese apartment, this became a source of some friction between them.

How would you handle a situation like that? Stick to your guns and tell her that come what may, you're going to be at that desk, in that apartment, every single day even if it takes you 10 years to achieve the goal you set? There are no easy answers here but John would be well advised to holster his pistols, and commence the delicate art of negotiation. From a compassionate viewpoint, you understand -- and not with a "I win, you lose" attitude.

I know of cases where this fear of upsetting others, especially people you care about, caused life-changing goals and dreams to be aborted or stillborn by their creators. What a potential loss to the world! Even if you haven't launched your dream goal or project, you can begin right now in the practice of loving compassion for those around you. One day you may be glad you did.

1. No Minimums Apply

Credit card companies have this thing that they like to call a minimum monthly payment. I call it keeping you in debt for as long as possible while they make as much money off you as they can. If you really want to eliminate credit card debt, forget that the minimum monthly payment option even exists (unless, of course, you're having a hard time even making that payment).

Don't make the mistake so many consumers make by paying only the minimum payment to each of their credit card companies when the bills come in. Instead, pay as much as you possibly can towards your credit card debt each and every month.

2. We're Not Gonna Take It!

Shrinking grace periods, increasing interest rates, hidden fees and charges -- don't put up with them! If you want to eliminate credit card debt you need to avoid incurring unnecessary expenses, and that includes the nickel and diming that some of the credit card companies try to get away with.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get what you want and if you really want to eliminate credit card debt, some sacrifices are going to be involved.

You know that expensive vacation you've been wanting to take? It's going to have to wait. And those $4 lattes you've been guzzling almost every day? Gonna have to cut back to once a week. All that money needs to go towards paying off your credit card debt.

4. Kill Two Birds With One Stone

A garage sale is a great way to take a chunk out of your credit card debt. Go through your home. Anything that you haven't used in a year put in the garage and get ready for a garage sale. 5. Put 'Em on Ice

If you really want to eliminate credit card debt, you can't be using your cards while you pay them off. If this means locking them away in the freezer, then do it.

Although Im a voiceover artist, I remain in radio. Not because of the great pay, recognition, fame and fortune, but for the same reason I entered the business 31 years ago I happen to love what I do.

While radio was my full-time career for all but the last of those 31 years, I now do weekends only. The pay stinks, there are no benefits and I do not get to do what I love doing more than anything else in the whole world! Rubbing elbows with my listeners. Meeting our listeners via remote broadcasts, personal appearances, meet & greets, etc. But, there is one thing that seems to remain constant. Radio listeners (and Im talking about terrestrial radio here) remain loyal to disc jockeys and formats to which theyre accustomed, despite the fact that disc jockeys are no longer required to be licensed by the FCC, that radio formats, because of consolidation, now seem to supply only cookie-cutter formats. Dont believe me? Next time youre on vacation anywhere else in the country, turn on the radio and tell me what you hear. It will be that same list of about 250-400 songs rotated over and over again.

Think about this! Commercial radio today can be likened to managed health care the difference being, radio is still free. Enter satellite radio. The predictions I made about this form of our medium several years ago are now coming to fruition. One of those predictions was that people are not going to pay for a radio subscription merely because their listening choices are endless. You may provide the format, but is there any substance? Subscriptions have not met expectations and as a result, the two satellite radio services are merging (sound familiar?).

Also, I found it unconscionable that those very services had to use commercial radio and TV to advertise their commercial-free services. Plus, the fact that commercial-free is a misnomer. They just arent presented in same way as they are in terrestrial radio.

Some have argued that the same thing happened with the advent of cable television all those years ago. Many complained and protested that they would never pay for television they could watch for free. Boy, that sure didnt work out to be so, did it?

But until commercial-free radio realizes that they cant merely provide the same programming as terrestrial radio sans commercials, theyre not gonna grow, let alone succeed. The business model hasnt been completely thought through in my opinion. Oh, they figured theyd offer free subscriptions for a year through auto dealers. The idea seemed good enough. But, what they didnt take into account was that after a year of free satellite radio, those subscribers discovered that what was being offered isnt worth $12 a month ($144 a year) to listen. The marketing plan seems backwards to me. As a result, those over-bloated subscriber numbers seemed to melt away after their free year was up. Oops!

I just purchased a creative Zen 60 GB Vision W media player. Im in the process of loading it up with what I want to hear.

Rental Income - Six Ways To Protect It

How do you maintain and increase the rental income from your properties? Start by keeping your renters happy. That's what the first two of these tips are about.

Happy Tenants Mean More Consistent Income

1. Find out why tenants leave. Sometimes it is just because of a job transfer or the need for a bigger apartment. But if it is because the neighborhood is becoming dangerous, or because the other tenants are too loud, these are things you need to know and to do something about. More turnover means less rental income, because it takes time to get those empty apartments rented. But to correct problems that lead to vacancies, you need to know what they are - so ask!

2. Talk to your tenants, and resolve any meaningful complaints as quickly as possible. The longer they stay, the less time you spend with empty apartments. If they want cheaper rent, let them know what others charge, and that you are competitive. But if they want a new carport and are willing to pay a little more per month for it, run the numbers. You might increase your income and have happier renters.

3. Rent that vacant apartment out quicker and you'll have more income for the year. One way to do this is to have a system in place and ready. Have the cleaning crew ready to go in the day the tenant moves out, and have advertisements ready to place in the paper the day before he moves out. Use a property manager if they are faster than you at turning an apartment around.

4. Another way to get those units rented out quickly is to have a ready supply of renters. For this, there are two things you can do. Keep files of recent (and qualified) applicants and call them when a unit becomes vacant. They might still be looking for a place. Keep in touch with other landlords and "trade" tenants. When they are full, they can refer renters to you, and you can do the same for them.

Other Ways To Protect And Boost Rental Income

5. The obvious way to increase that income is to raise the monthly rent you charge. You can't do this arbitrarily without losing tenants, but it may be worth checking the rents of comparable properties if you haven't done so in a while. If you raise rent to market level, or even a bit higher, tenants may not like it, but there won't be enough incentive for them to move. If you are raising to market or below, include examples of area rents in the letter notifying the tenants.

6. Noticed that four of the ways above are really about reducing vacancies in your rentals, or to look at it from the other perspective, they are about improving the occupancy rate. The more time those units are full the better (assuming the renters are paying). One way to accomplish this is to rent to people who stay longer. How do you know who will stay longer? Start by asking, and then rule out any who say, "This will do for now." But more important is their history. Those who have moved every eight months for years will likely continue that pattern, while the family that spent eight years at their last apartment will likely stay with you for a long time. That really helps keep that rental income consistent.

Inspiration comes in all colors and styles. But the key point is that if there is something that makes people believe more in their own abilities to succeed I say, that is a good thing. The two ends of the freestyle board are the same, so there is no front and back. This type of board is good for learning to snowboard, and for learning new tricks. To start again, point your snowboard down and it will start sliding. You might want to borrow equipment the first few times to get a feel for the sport before getting your own personal shoes and board. You've read all the "best digital camera" articles, got the best price on your first digital camera, and even glanced at its owner's manual. Are you itching to take some shots of your family, or what?

Slow down, soldier. Before you take 200 shots that seem great at the time, but then upon review of the final picture are less than what you expected, let's prepare. Prepare?!?! I'll bet you thought charging the battery was the hardest part of taking great photos, didn't you? Sorry to disappoint you, but if you want to improve your photo results 50% in 2 minutes, let's review some basic advice of the pros.

There are two categories of GENERAL ADVICE which applies, regardless of whether you're using a digital camera to take family portrait poses, baby pictures, pet portraits, group pictures, funny photos, or even maternity portraits. The first category is...

"Good Planning" Advice for Photography Poses

1) Prepare For The Event

Prepare for the event by thinking about every photograph you want to take and what kind of photography pose or poses you would like to capture. Consider who, where, how, and the type of environment.

2) Take Multiple Photographs

Take multiple shots of each pose (remember, digital memory is reusable, a.k.a. "free"). Regardless of what you say or do, people will blink. And don't count on spotting small problems on the tiny camera LCD screen (even on full magnification); which leads to...

3) Check LCD Screen

Check the digital camera's LCD screen for general framing of the picture, any movement, visibility of faces, and the histogram. Note that you can think up a fantastic photography pose; arrange everyone perfectly; and, have the photograph "frozen" (no blinking, and no shaking of the camera)...but, when you check it out in the LCD, you see 2 drunks fighting in the background! And, my favorite...

4) Funny Phrases

Have some funny phrases handy to use just before you take the photo. Don't use it when setting up for the shot. And, don't use the same phrase all the time. Throw in funny anecdotes, phrases, names, words that you know your family will find more amusing than "cheese." A natural smile looks four times better than a fake one. The second category is...

"Location" Advice for Photography Poses

Taking indoor family photography, is very different than outdoor family photograph (duh!). For INDOOR pictures...

1) Wide Angle

You will tend to use the wide angle more often than your telephoto setting. Pay particular attention to your "end people" (those farthest to the right and the left in your viewfinder), and verify there is enough space in picture, so that if cropping is required, the end people don't have to lose a limb.

2) The Flash

Flash considerations are critical. Do not be outside your "flash range." For example, if at ISO 100, your flash can properly illuminate 12 feet, don't attempt any photography pose that requires anyone to stand at 14 feet (unless, of course, it's evil cousin Ira who you want to appear in darkness).

3) Plan "B"

If you need to be further away than your flash allows, here are 2 things you can try...First, increase the ISO setting (but not so much as to produce to much noise), or second, move to a significantly brighter location.

4) Watch Your Background

If there are distracting features, change your settings to blur the background (see the Techniques page). The best photography pose in the world won't look right with a distracting background. And finally...

5) Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall

If there are mirrors or reflective surfaces in the background and you can't find a different location, only take the picture in such a way that the flash is not perpendicularto the surface, but at an angle (unless you want a nice photo of your flash).

Outdoor family photography has completely different issues. For OUTDOOR photography...

6) The Sun

Avoid photographing in direct sunlight, or in mixed light and shade, especially faces. Optimal lighting results from a slightly overcast sky.

7) Shade

When photographing in shade, use fill-flash (see terms) when necessary. And, really finally...

8) Beauty

If practical, take the picture at one of the beautiful natural settings near you. Imagine the result of a creative photography pose captured in a stunning environment. Can you say: "Over the mantle!"?

Being a college student I had a very long and hard time getting a credit card. Everywhere I applied at required a credit line or a co-signer. Coping with Bedwetting - The Morning Pee Report

Lets see. That ranks about equal with spring cleaning, studying for a big history test, and getting shots all in the same day! There are a few things that will make it easier for your little one. One tactic you may not have considered is getting a system for the morning pee report (feel free to rename it!).

Its a pretty sure bet that your child will feel less embarrassed if theres a definite time and place to talk to you privately (and calmly). Make sure to set aside some a regular time each morning to be available to your child.

Now, this time shouldnt be in front of brothers and sisters which can be a challenge if youve got a large brood. Its crucial that this conversation is done privately. Brothers and sisters are notorious teasers not always known for their compassion or kindness. But even if their only sibling is a sweet 18-year-old sister who would never even think of teasing, your child still doesnt want to announce:

I wet the bed. Somebody, please pass the toast,

while youre eating breakfast.

One more part of this idea is to have a system in place where your child can check in with you each morning either way dry or wet. An easy way to do this is to create a chart where the two of you mark wet and dry nights. That way your child doesnt have to approach you only with bad news about an accident. You could easily add this to your morning routine, and itll feel a whole lot less like the dreaded confessional booth. Your morning time together could become a positive time of encouragement and support transforming a time theyd rather avoid into a positive thing instead.

Along with this routine, you should teach your child how to help with the laundry, when theres been an accident. Even little kids can strip off wet sheets and take them to the washing machine. No better time than the present to build these good habits taking care of things that are less fun first, being honest, taking personal responsibility for your body. Although when used wisely it is not, those who do not have the self discipline should limit themselves to one card with a small limit on it, and stay away from cards that offer no limit, but need to be paid in full each month. Jillian Mincer reported in the Wall Street Journal that, "there is an impact of the U.S. credit market crisis based on credit score." That is how important your credit score is.

So you run up a few cards, pay some of them late, your score tumbles, but what do you care, you already own a house or that car etc., so you could care less. Not so says Mincer, who says that your credit score can affect potential employment, insurance rates and more. Mincer claims, "A low credit score could cost additional finance charges and could prevent access to credit and insurance and even affect employment prospects." Apparently some companies frown on individuals who have bad credit, because they may have to work an additional job which in turn may lead to being tired more often, additional stress and so on.

Do not blink now, a report in the Wall Street Journal suggests that consumers need an even higher credit score than they did in the spring 2007 to get the best interest rates on loans. Banks and financial institutions are clamping down on who they lend their money to.

So what is the solution? It is a lot more simple than you think. Consumers can raise their credit scores by paying bills on time, not maxing out your credit card or cards in the case of some consumers and paying off debt in full.

You will want to talk to your tax advisor to see if consolidating is the way to go. One thing is for sure, if you do not have the self control of not spending, all experts agree, cut your cards up, limit yourself to one card for emergencies and cancel the others.

How Past Delinquencies Can Ruin Your Credit

It is never too late to repair your credit. The first place to start is with past delinquencies. These are one of the most common causes of bad credit and are the largest component (35%) in determining your credit score. Therefore, they are a big key in making or breaking your credit score. Delinquencies on your credit coincide with how punctual you are on making your payments. If you are over 30 days late on a payment, it will damage your credit score. It is always better to not be late on your payments, but because we are human we make mistakes. But do not despair because there are ways to revamp your credit. Here are a few factors to consider for preventing bad credit or further delinquencies:

Timing: The more recent the delinquency, the more it negatively affects your credit score. Lets say in the last four years you were 30 days delinquent on a loan payment three times in 2003, 2005 and today. The delinquency today will hurt your credit score a lot more than the one in 2005 which hurts your score more than the one in 2003.

Level: The later you are on your payments, the worse your credit score and ultimately your overall credit score and credit worthiness. The level or order of going from bad to worse is as follows: 30 days is better than 60, which is better than 90 days late. Then the progression goes from 90 days to a charge-off and collections, then repossession, foreclosure and finally bankruptcy. A charge-off is when the credit card company takes the amount that you owe them off their books typically 180 days after your last late payment, but the borrower still has a debt to pay. Going down the ladder, the lenders can repossess your car or other material possessions and even foreclose on your home. Thus, the level of the delinquency can affect both your credit score and your livelihood.

Past Due Notices: Past due notices have been known to destroy credit scores. Most people believe that they have a grace period when it comes to making payments. For example, if your mortgage is due on the 10th of every month and it says that there will be a $200 penalty after the 25th, you can still be overdue without being 30 days late. If you pay anytime after the 10th, you are past due. Some mortgage companies are starting to report past due notices to credit bureaus if the payment is received after the due date. Once the next payment is made on time or before the due date, the past due notices will come off when the mortgage company updates with the credit bureau. Its very important to make sure you pay all your bills on time so this does not happen to you.

Missed Payments (Low vs. High): The credit score penalizes people more for missing high payments than low ones. What Fair Isaac found out is that people who miss high payments are more apt to become 90 days delinquent or more compared to people who miss low payments. If someone was 30 days late on a mortgage payment, he or she would be more likely to be 60 and 90 days late due to a lack of money compared to a small payment. People miss small payments to a creditor more often because it got lost mail or they forgot to pay. These discrepancies are not as much a derogatory risk to go 90 days late as missing high payments are. Keep a close watch on not missing your payments, especially the higher ones.

Keeping on top of delinquencies is the best place to start making efforts toward a better credit score. Remember that there is always a financial solution for your credit and it is never too late.

No Credit Student Loans - How to Get One

No credit is better than bad credit so this condition will not preclude your from getting a loan for study. Before looking at just any student loan, here are a few loans that require absolutely no credit checks:

Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, some other Government and State-funded loans, Pell Grant and other Government grants, some private grants and scholarships.

Federal Student Loans

Although the amount given is small and may need supplementing with a private type of loan, it is your first step and is an essential part of any Student Loan credit package. Why? Because it is government funded and has the best terms available.

There are two types - Subsidized and Unsubsidized.

Subsidized Loans are for only very financially needy students and the government pays for all your interest payments - not bad eh! - until the student has graduated. You also have a 6 month grace period before paying back the loan.

Unsubsidized Loans are available to all students and are much easier to obtain. The interest rate is still low - around 6-8 percent and also provides a six month grace period.

The Perkins Loan - this loan type is the hardest to get and is for only the most financially needy of students. It therefore has the best terms - a nine month grace period and you have 10 years to pay it back.

As with most federal student loan programs, having no credit shouldn't be a problem.

Grants and Scholarships

Grants and scholarships are not loans, so of course require no credit checks. Scholarships are normally awarded on merit where as grants are provided more on need - check out the Federal Pell Grant.

A lot of states also have many grants and scholarships so check with your state's government education fund. There are also many professional societies. If there are a shortage of teachers for example the government will provide more funding to these related professional teachers societies so it is more likely you can get a grant or scholarship from these places.

Alternative and Co-Signer Loans

You need a credit worthy co-signer to get this type of loan - typically your parents will be the co-signers. The downside is that if you cannot make your loan repayments then your co-signer are up for the bill. This can be very awkward and should be considered carefully. There are a few terms between you and the co-signer agreed upon before taking out the loan. For example if you are starting to fall behind you need to let them know and maybe take out a part-time job to help get back up to date. Good credit can lower your repayment amounts.

Keeping away from bad credit

You want to avoid defaulting on your student loans at all cost, this may mean consolidating your loans or changing terms, you could ask about reducing your monthly payment, you will still have to pay it back in the future but it could help you get over a rough financial patch you may find yourself in.

Many people think of goals in terms of their buying power for materialistic items like a big house with a pool, a sports car, a boat, a new kitchen but for a truly balanced life choose goals in each of these six areas:

- Family and Home
- Financial and Career
- Spiritual and Ethical
- Physical and Health
- Social and Cultural
- Mental and Educational

Rather than only financial goals, consider the sort of family you want to have, the sports you wish to pursue, clubs you wish to join, community groups you can contribute to, voluntary programs you can join, how far you want to go in formal education and the subjects you will study in your adult life. I have a friend who is reading two Bachelor degrees simultaneously with The Open University, just for interest. Success University offer short on-line courses in all areas of life.

Goals must always be stated in the positive. Your subconscious mind cannot distinguish between a positive and negative so if you say, "I will not be untidy", your subconscious interprets that as, "I will be untidy." That will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Be specific in your goals. "I want to earn more money" is not specific and you may receive the answer with a 1% pay increase. Instead state, "By age XX, I shall be earning XXX amount of money." You might say, "I want a sports car" and be offered a 20 year old MG by a friend when in fact you had a Ferrari in mind. If you can clearly see what it is that you want, if you can visualise and describe it in writing or with a photo or drawing, your subconscious will lead you along the path to making a reality.

If you want to visit somewhere unknown, you need a map. So think of written down goals as creating your map. Choose words and pictures to cement your destinations in your mind. Make a montage and call it your goals board, or your dream board if you prefer.

If you want to own a certain model of car, find a good photo and include it in the montage. Perhaps you want to visit somewhere specific eg Paris or Japan so find a photo which instantly makes you think of that place. Cut photos out of catalogues.

Place this dream board where you can see it daily. Share it with people close to you as this makes a commitment on which your subconscious can focus.

Someone write, "A dream is a goal without legs." To change a dream into a reachable goal requires clarity, details, a clear vision on which you can focus so that you can recognize opportunities along the way to its attainment.

Part of the magic of the human experience is the similarities we share in cognitive response. Given a set of different stimuli, a majority of humans will react or feel uniformly. Color is a common stimulus that most people rarely consider. Varying wavelengths of reflected light stimulate our nerves and create distinct responses that are not only connotative but biological as well. Color can change our moods and cause us to be hungry, drowsy, or even upset. It is has the innate ability to influence our decisions while almost unnoticed.

A great deal of study is conducted to understand our natural responses to color for the obvious benefit of subconscious communication, and there is no arena where this is utilized more than in the sales and retail industries. Smart retailers consider instinctual response to color when designing anything in association with their store, whether that means billboards, associates' dress code, or even the walls and store fixtures. The right color of a slatwall fixture or dressing room interior may make the difference of a customer walking away empty handed or with an arm full of clothes.

Possibly the greatest model for color influence is the "Golden Arches" of MacDonald's. Have you ever wondered why they picked yellow? Not only is yellow a cheerful and friendly color that appeals to youth, it has been proven to actually make people hungry for foods high in carbohydrates. In this example, color is utilized perfectly because it identifies with the customers by targeting younger people while generating a healthy desire for fast burning sustenance. Similarly, retailers wishing to take advantage of color stimulus should consider their customers. What is the typical age group of customers? What type of experience do you want them to have? Should there be a vibe of excitement or quiet relaxation? There are so many things to consider, but until a retailer knows their customer and even their own store, it is difficult to choose colors that will accomplish these things.

Once the store design, products, and customers have been clarified, color association may begin. Each color has a typical psychological association that it produces. Red is exciting, passionate, and warm, while pink creates a desire for candy and sweets. Blue is a relaxing color that brings refreshment and symbolizes intuition and integrity, and green universally signifies a nurturing appeal. Most color association is actually common sense if you take the time to think about it, but some colors responses might surprise you. For example, white can be both cold and sterile or it can bring life to other colors.

Color and texture combinations can range from extremely complex to very simple. If you are new to creating a color palette, keep it simple and remember to use high contrast. The more contrast, the more stimulating an environment or advertisement will be. Choose a few colors that contrast but identify with your customers according to age and style. In a retail setting, a splash of red is always great to create that itch of desire. Do not worry too much about producing the wrong effect. Chances are, if you spent some time thinking about it, it will work well. Many retailers don't even get that far.
